z/OS integration

This material contains all the activities necessary for the installation and implementation of a new System z processor, z/OS operational system, migration from the existing hardware (System z processors) and  z/OS operational system to a new environment and integration of distributed platform in a new environment. These activities can be divided into the following units:

  • Managing the project
  • Installing System z processor
  • Installing z/OS operating system and system software
  • Migrating product work to new hardware and software
  • Integrating distributed platforms into a new environment

Managing the project   

  • Description of activities
    • Communicating with the customer through his project manager
    • Setting up documentation and procedures for normal project operation
    • Running project meetings
    • Solving possible complications
    • Coordinating and managing technical activities of project staff
  • Prerequisites
    • A responsible person appointed by the customer
  • Obligations of the Bidder (SV Group Ltd)
    • Appoint a manager-coordinator
  • Obligations of the Customer

Appoint a person responsible for the following:

    • Communicating with the Bidder’s project team and with all the personnel involved in the project on the part of the Bidder, as well as with external persons involved in the project.
    • Communicating with the Bidder’s project manager
    • Collecting and updating information, data, decisions and approvals needed for smooth project operation within 3 days from the Bidder’s request, unless agreed otherwise
    • Removing deviations from the agreed project guidelines caused by the Customer
  • Delivery
    • Project plan
    • Weekly report on project status
  • Completion criteria
    • This is an ongoing activity which will be considered completed at the end of the project.

Installation of System z  processors

  • Description of activities
    • Preparing the existing software  z/OS for the installation on a new hardware – analysis, implementations and testing changes in the existing system software
    • Drawing up detailed installation plans
    • Performing activities according to the adopted installation plan
  • Prerequisites
    • Delivered and physically installed equipment as specified by the manufacturer (IBM). Processors and other hardware equipment are physically installed by the IBM technical service.
  • Obligations of the Bidder (SV Group Ltd)
    • The Bidder shall appoint a service leader who will be responsible for communicating with the Customer, setting up documentation and procedures for a normal course of service delivery and coordinating and running technical activities
    • The Bidder shall carry out activities from item ‘Description of activities’.
  • Obligations of the Customer
    • Provide access to the Customer’s premises
    • Provide persons with relevant know-how to cooperate on planned activities
    • Provide adequate office space
    • Provide access to hw/sw resources of the Customer
    • Provide all the resources necessary for the installation of new hardware (system hall, electrical supply, air conditioning, etc.)
    • Appoint a responsible person who will be in charge of the following:

communicating with specialists involved in planned activities throughout the duration of the project, solving deviations from planned activities caused by the Customer and collecting and updating information necessary for smooth operation of planned activities

  • Deliveries
    • The existing operating system (z/OS), system and application software installed on new hardware components
    • Installation documentation
  • Completion criteria
    • The existing operational system (z/OS), system and application software installed on new hardware components are functioning
    • The installation documentation submitted to the Customer

Installation of z/OS operational system and system software

  • Description of activities
    • Preparing the existing operational system (z/OS) for the installation of new software
    • Installing new software according to IBM instructions
    • Raising the new software service level
    • Verifying the installed new software in test environment according to IBM standards (IVP – Installation Verification Procedures)
  • Prerequisites
    • Ensured licences and distribution for a new version of the z/OS operating system and system software

    • Provide access to the Customer’s premises
    • Appoint persons to cooperate on activities
    • Provide adequate office space
    • Provide access to hw/sw resources of the Customer
    • Provide all necessary resources for the installation of new software
  • Delivery
    • Installed and implemented new operational system and system hardware
    • Installation documentation
    • Training for new software lasting a maximum of 3 days
    • Instructions for the operating staff
  • Completion criteria
    • Successfully verified (IVP) new software
    • Console printout of starting and shutting down of new software
    • Installation documentation submitted to the Customer
    • Completed training for operating the new software
    • Instructions for the operating staff submitted to the Customer

Migration of production to new hardware and software

  • Description of activities
    • Customizing new software to application requirements of the Customer’s Information System
    • Making necessary changes in the applications required by new hardware and software and their testing
    • Drawing up, changing and verifying procedures aimed at ensuring data integrity and security
    • Drawing up and customizing operating instructions
    • Drawing up a detailed migration plan
    • Participating in the migration of production to new hardware and software
  • Prerequisites
    • New hardware and software installed
    • Ensured available disc space for working datasets
  • Obligations of the Bidder (SV Group Ltd)
    • Participating in the migration of production to new hardware and software
    • The Bidder shall appoint a service manager responsible for communicating with the Customer, setting up documentation and procedures for a normal course of service implementation and coordinating and running technical activities

Integration of distributed platforms in the new environment

  • Description of activities
    • Provide access to the existing applications on Host (3270 CICS applications) from Web and distributed platforms
    • Enable data input and update on Host (CICS – DB2 backend systems) from a distributed environment
  • Prerequisites
    • Ensured licences and distribution for relevant software on the distributed platform and Host (z/OS software)
    • Licences and distribution relate to the following software:

IBM Host Access Client Package (Personal Communication (3270 data stream), WebSphere Host on Demand(Java emulation), Screen Customizer)
